One of the reasons we love Nerd Baker is that it's a book that in many ways defies characterization. On the surface it's a baking book, but it's also a travelogue with a hint of a memoir, all tied together by the engaging writing and stellar photography of Singapore-based author Christopher Tan.
The book included dozens of recipes inspired by the author's global travels, but also his whims and creative tangents. There are chapters on everything from heirloom "endangered" recipes to bakes inspired by the color purple and mushrooms.
But it's also has wonderful takes on more familiar concepts like kouign amann, milk bread, and doughnuts. .
The book is laid in a fresh-style, with variety of inspiring and well tested recipes and loads of gorgeous photographs Recipes range from simple to complex, but the author's detailed instructions make even the most complicated recipe approachable.
This is truly one of our favorite books.
